Zanskar: On the second day of his visit to Zanskar, Chief Secretary, UT Ladakh, Ashish Kundra, conducted a comprehensive review of ongoing construction and developmental works in and around Padum.
The Chief Secretary inspected various works being implemented under the Special Development Package (SDP), including the construction of the new Police Station building, the Tourism Department’s Amphitheatre, and the Munsif Court building.
During his visit to the Munsif Court construction site, the Chief Secretary stressed the need for an integrated judicial complex accommodating both the Revenue Court and the Munsif Court to ensure better coordination and efficient delivery of judicial services.
He also visited Government Degree College, Padum; Community Health Centre (CHC), Padum; and the Handloom Weaving Centre, Padum, where he reviewed the ongoing activities and assessed infrastructure requirements.
The Chief Secretary directed the concerned officers to ensure timely completion of the ongoing works while maintaining quality standards and addressing the requirements of the local population.
Later, the Chief Secretary visited Kumik Heritage Village, where he reviewed the heritage and cultural significance of the village. He interacted with residents and emphasised the importance of preserving and promoting Zanskar’s rich cultural heritage while exploring its potential for sustainable tourism.
The Chief Secretary concluded his two-day visit to Zanskar with a visit to Zangla village, where he addressed a public gathering and interacted with residents. A delegation led by the local representative submitted a memorandum highlighting various developmental and infrastructure-related demands.
The demands included restoration of the 1,000-year-old temple, reconstruction of the link road and Zangla Bridge, provision of funds for the construction of parking facilities at Buddha Park, establishment of a library, and improvement of telecommunications infrastructure, including 5G connectivity and installation of a new Airtel tower.
The Chief Secretary patiently heard the issues and concerns raised by the delegation and assured them that the matters would be examined by the concerned departments for appropriate action.
