Drass, July 21, 2025 – A five-day outreach and assessment camp aimed at empowering persons with disabilities (Divyangjans) and senior citizens concluded today at the Community Health Centre (CHC), Drass.
The camp was organised under the joint aegis of the District Social and Tribal Welfare Department and ALIMCO, Chandigarh in collaboration with the Health & Medical Education Department, Kargil.
In a commendable effort to ensure inclusivity and accessibility, the camp was held at five key locations across the district — Auditorium Hall Kargil, CHC Sankoo, PHC Barsoo, PHC Trespone, and CHC Drass. The multi-site approach ensured that individuals from even the most remote areas could benefit from the services without the burden of travel or logistical hardship.
Expert technical teams from the Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India (ALIMCO), Mohali, conducted comprehensive assessments of each beneficiary. These evaluations will guide the distribution of customised assistive aids, tailored to individual needs. At the final leg of the camp held at CHC Drass, approximately 25 individuals were assessed. In total, nearly 130 persons across the district received professional evaluations over the course of the five days.
The camp marks a significant step forward in extending dignity, mobility, and independence to individuals who often face barriers in daily life. The identified beneficiaries will soon receive a range of assistive devices — including wheelchairs, hearing aids, artificial limbs, motorised tricycles, walking sticks, and other essential aids — completely free of cost.
The officials highlighted that the distribution of these devices will commence shortly after procurement and processing are completed.
