Leh, June 8: The Agriculture Department organised a Kisan Goshti Camp at Shashukul village in Durbuk Sub-Division to promote sustainable and climate-resilient farming practices among local farmers.
The programme was conducted by the team from the Sub-Divisional Agriculture Office (SDAO), Leh, with active participation from farmers of the region.
During the camp, SDAO Leh Mohd Ramzan conducted training sessions on natural farming practices, including the preparation and use of Jeevamrit and Beejamrit. He also demonstrated low tunnel technology and mulching techniques for watermelon and summer squash cultivation under the challenging climatic conditions of Changthang.
Agriculture Extension Officer Tsering Dolkar briefed farmers on greenhouse cultivation practices in Ladakh and highlighted the benefits of micro-irrigation systems under the PMKSY-PDMC scheme.
Agriculture Extension Officer Kunzang Dolma spoke on the importance of organic farming and its long-term environmental and economic benefits for Ladakh’s agricultural sector.
Agriculture Extension Officer Chimet Lhamo informed farmers about various government schemes and programmes being implemented for the welfare and development of the farming community.
The camp concluded with an interactive session during which farmers shared their experiences and sought guidance on modern agricultural practices. Officials said the initiative helped improve awareness about sustainable farming technologies and government support programmes available to farmers.
