Leh, April 16, 2026: Vice Chancellor of the University of Ladakh, Saket Kushwaha, visited Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Nyoma to review ongoing agricultural initiatives and promote innovation in high-altitude farming.
During the visit, the VC inspected a model apple orchard at Nee village developed under the MIDH project, which recorded an impressive survival rate of 98.59 percent using cold-resistant rootstocks.
At KVK Nyoma, Head Dr. Phuntsog Tundup presented a detailed progress report and action plan for 2026–27, highlighting interventions aimed at improving farmer livelihoods in the Changthang region.
Interacting with local representatives, the Vice Chancellor appreciated the outreach efforts in remote areas, including regions above 15,000 feet, and encouraged wider adoption of advanced agricultural practices.
He stressed the need for a strong marketing mechanism for farm produce, proposed setting up an Aadhaar service centre at KVK Nyoma, and assured exposure visits for farmers to other hill states to learn best practices.
