The Sub-Divisional Administration Kharu, under the guidance of the Deputy Commissioner, Leh, convened a meeting with Sub-Divisional Heads, Nambardars, and key stakeholders, including representatives from the Army and BRO to effectively implement the initiatives taken by the Administration of UT Ladakh.
The meeting deliberated on key issues such as curbing of the drug menace, improving sanitation and cleanliness, promoting plantation drives, water conservation, school mentorship programme and enhancing efficiency and transparency in service delivery through digital platforms. Feedback was also sought on the *“Jung-sJabs”* programme conducted across all 15 revenue villages of Sub Division Kharu- an initiative of the Deputy Commissioner, Leh, aimed at providing doorstep services to the public.
SDM Kharu, Mohd Shabir, emphasized the role of grassroots functionaries in implementing the Administration’s vision on the ground and urged Nambardars, stakeholders, and the public to actively support developmental and welfare initiatives of the UT Administration.
Addressing the issue of drug abuse, the SDM highlighted it as a major concern requiring collective and stringent action. He urged village representatives to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activities. While appreciating the efforts of the police, he underlined the need for a coordinated community response and stressed the engagement of youth in positive activities such as sports and other constructive pursuits.
The meeting also underscored the importance of cleanliness, sanitation, and hygiene, urging participants to maintain their localities and spread public awareness to make Ladakh a clean and pollution-free region. Emphasis was also laid on promoting community participation in plantation drives.
Later, the participants were sensitized about the upcoming Census 2027, scheduled to commence in June 2026. It was informed that self-enumeration for Census 2027 will be conducted from 17th May to 31st May 2026 in the UT of Ladakh, enabling citizens to submit their details online prior to the enumerator’s visit.
