Leh: A two-day community awareness programme on disaster management began at Sub Division Khaltse as part of the schedule prepared by the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Leh.
The programme is being organised by the 13 Battalion National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) for employees, shopkeepers, hoteliers and the general public.
The first day of the programme was conducted at SDM Ground, Khaltse, for employees of various departments, while the second day will be held at Bus Stand Khaltse for shopkeepers, hoteliers and members of the public.
Sub Divisional Magistrate Khaltse Mohd Sharif, Station House Officer Jamyang Namgail, and Sub Inspector Skarma Angchuck, along with officials from various departments and police personnel, participated in the programme.
The NDRF team, led by Dy Commandant S.D. Prasad, Inspector Iqbal Singh, and ASI Rakesh Kumar, conducted the training with the support of 14 trained rescuers.
Participants were trained in disaster preparedness and emergency response for natural calamities such as floods, landslides and earthquakes. Demonstrations were conducted on earthquake safety measures, basic first aid and CPR, fire safety protocols, safe handling of LPG cylinders, and emergency evacuation procedures during floods.
The initiative aims to strengthen community preparedness and enhance the capacity of officials and citizens to respond effectively during emergencies.
