Leh: Lieutenant Governor Shri Kavinder Gupta attended the historic Matho Nagrang Festival at Matho Monastery in Leh, highlighting its importance as one of Ladakh’s most significant cultural and spiritual events.
The LG was welcomed by former Member of Parliament Jamyang Tsering Namgyal and the monks of Matho Monastery.
Describing the festival as a 500-year-old tradition rooted in the Sakya school of Tibetan Buddhism, he said the event reflects Ladakh’s rich cultural and spiritual heritage and attracts visitors, scholars and researchers from across the world.
The festival is known for its unique Nagrang tradition, where two monk oracles perform sacred masked dances and deliver prophecies after a year of rigorous meditation and spiritual practice.
The Lieutenant Governor reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to preserving Ladakh’s cultural heritage and urged the youth to embrace modernity while remaining rooted in their traditions and identity.
