Kargil, January 25, 2026: Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor, LAHDC Kargil, Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon, today attended the National Voters’ Day function as the Chief Guest at the Ice Hockey Rink, Bemathang, organized under the theme “My India, My Vote – Indian citizens at the heart of Indian democracy.”
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Executive Councillor (CEC) stated that India, the mother of democracy, derives its greatest strength from its democratic values, where power truly rests with the people. He emphasized that democracy in India is not confined to higher institutions alone but is deeply rooted at the grassroots level, ensuring active public participation in governance.
The CEC highlighted that the power to elect leaders lies with the people, and equally important is their constitutional right to hold elected representatives accountable and remove them through democratic means. Reflecting the spirit of the Constitution, he remarked that governance in India is truly “of the people, by the people, and for the people.”
He further stated that the Indian Parliament is the largest democratic platform in the world, and the vote of every citizen from every constituency matters equally, making elections at all levels extremely significant.
On the occasion, the CEC thanked the District Election Officer and all stakeholders for the successful organization of the event. He expressed satisfaction over the high level of political awareness in Kargil, noting that people actively participate in the electoral process. He urged new and eligible voters to enroll themselves through the official voter registration portal to further strengthen democracy.
The CEC also lauded the dedication of Booth Level Officers (BLOs) for their tireless efforts at the grassroots level to eliminate even minute errors in the electoral rolls, ensuring free, fair, and transparent elections.
Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner, Kargil urged first-time voters to get themselves registered in the electoral rolls and contribute towards making the voter list more inclusive and representative. He emphasized that voter participation is the backbone of a strong democracy.
The DC appreciated the sincere efforts of BLOs, Supervisors, and Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs) for ensuring the smooth conduct of free and fair elections in the district. He also appealed to the public to actively participate in the upcoming Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process being undertaken by the Election Department, stressing that public cooperation is essential for maintaining accurate and error-free electoral rolls.
On the occasion, Additional Deputy Commissioner Kargil, Imteeaz Kacho; Joint Director Finance, Iftikhar Hussain, besides other district officers, were present.
The event concluded with a friendly ice hockey match between the DC team and the CEC team, followed by a performance by Ranthak Theatre, highlighting the importance of young and eligible voters in Indian democracy.
