Kargil: The District Hub for Empowerment of Women, Mission Shakti under the Department of Social and Tribal Welfare, Kargil, organised a STEM initiative programme at Government Higher Secondary School, Trespone, on September 13. The event was part of a 10-day special awareness campaign launched by the Ministry of Women and Child Development, Government of India.
The programme aimed to promote excellence among girls in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) fields and encourage students from schools across the TSG block to explore careers in science and technology.
Resource person Mehboob Ali, Lecturer in Zoology, conducted a guided tour of the school’s STEM laboratory. He highlighted modern techniques in science education, demonstrated hands-on experiments, and explained key concepts to simplify learning. Ali also urged students to nurture curiosity, describing it as the driving force that can help them excel in any chosen field.
Students from multiple schools in the TSG block took part in the event. Organisers said the interactive sessions offered young learners a valuable opportunity to strengthen their interest in scientific inquiry and innovation.
The initiative was particularly focused on motivating girls to pursue education and careers in STEM, aligning with the broader goal of empowering women through skill-building and academic excellence.
