Kargil, August 23, 2025: Executive Councillors, LAHDC Kargil, Kacho Mohd Feroz and Zakir Hussain took an extensive tour of the flood-hit areas of Shakar-Chiktan Block, including Stakchey, Mundik, Samra, Hagnis, Shakardo, and Sanjak, to assess the damages caused by the recent flash floods and to take stock of ongoing relief measures.
The ECs were accompanied by Executive Councillor Mechanical Division, AEEs from Irrigation, R&B, and PMGSY, along with all JEs, BDO Shakar-Chiktan, and representatives of the Revenue Department. The visit was aimed at conducting an on-ground evaluation of the situation and ensuring that immediate grievances of the affected people are addressed without delay.
During the inspection, the ECs reviewed the damages caused to roads, kuhls, irrigation fields, government buildings, and private houses. The local population apprised them of the hardships faced due to disrupted connectivity, damaged agricultural infrastructure, and loss of property.
In response, the ECs issued on-spot directions to the concerned officers for temporary restoration of essential services and instructed them to prepare detailed damage assessment reports at the earliest. They further emphasized that all affected households must receive compensation and relief in a transparent and time-bound manner.
Speaking to the people, EC Kacho Feroz expressed solidarity with the victims, stating, “We stand shoulder to shoulder with the affected families in this difficult time. The Administration, under the guidance of LAHDC Kargil, will ensure every possible support for restoration and rehabilitation.”
EC Zakir Hussain also assured the public that special focus will be given to irrigation channels and road connectivity, as these are critical for both daily life and agriculture. “Our priority is to restore basic infrastructure at the earliest so that people can resume their normal livelihood activities,” he said.
The ECs directed officials to adopt a coordinated approach between departments to accelerate the pace of restoration and called for the active involvement of local representatives to ensure that relief reaches every affected family.
The people of the region welcomed the visit and expressed gratitude to the Councillors for promptly addressing their concerns and taking proactive measures for their rehabilitation.
