Kargil, June 13, 2025 – To conduct an extensive awareness program, a team of Election Commission of India head by Mr. Mithilesh Chandra Sharma, Section Officer, ECI, Government of India held a training for BLOs at Drass Sub Division on Thursday.
The training was planned to familiarise the BLOs with their roles and responsibilities and to equip them with requirements of filling relevant forms for an error free updation of electoral rolls.
Also the training aims to familiarise the BLOs with their responsibilities under the Representation of the People Act, 1950; the Registration of Electors Rules, 1960 and subsequent Commission instructions, as well as to train them in the proper completion of forms to update the electoral rolls accurately.
The training was attended by various BlOs from Drass Sub Division . The team from ECI also visited various polling stations of Drass to check the updated facilities provided to the voters.
Similarly, the team from the Election Commission of India (ECI) visited various remote areas of Kargil district on Friday to review polling station arrangements and assess ground-level preparedness. The team interacted with Booth Level Officers (BLOs) to check the feasibility of conducting elections in difficult and far-flung villages.
Led by ECI official Mr. Mithilesh Chandra Sharma, the team inspected polling preparations in areas including Lankarchey, Sankoo, Panikhar, and Parkachik. Along with assessing the accessibility of these locations, the officials also checked for the availability of basic facilities such as drinking water, washrooms, and proper rooms for setting up polling stations.
The officials emphasized that every eligible citizen, even in the most remote and challenging areas, should be given the opportunity to vote. They also noted the ongoing efforts to provide home voting options for elderly voters, which was appreciated by local residents and BLOs.
Overall, the visit was termed productive, as it provided valuable insights into the on ground situation and highlighted the importance of strengthening basic infrastructure to ensure smooth and inclusive elections
