Kargil, June 11, 2025 – Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor (CEC), LAHDC Kargil, Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon, today was called on by a delegation from Biamathang Upper Colony apprising water related issues in the area.
The delegation raised concerns about water related issues and requested the CEC to address and resolve the issues at the earliest in coordination with the concerned departments.
Dr. Akhoon gave a patient hearing and acknowledged the concerns, stating that water scarcity is a global challenge, and Kargil is no exception.
He assured the delegation that every possible step will be taken to alleviate the problem, emphasizing that the District Administration and Hill Council are committed to ensuring water supply at the doorstep of every citizen.
He added that while funding is no longer a major constraint, the real challenge lies in overcoming local and technical hurdles. He stressed the need for mutual cooperation and understanding to find sustainable solutions.
The CEC highlighted that water is being supplied through multiple mechanisms, including tankers, lift irrigation projects, and pipelines. However, he acknowledged the challenges in reaching every household and reiterated that addressing water scarcity remains a top priority for the LAHDC Kargil and the district administration.
The delegation also submitted a memorandum outlining specific issues and demands related to the water crisis.
Taking immediate action, Dr. Akhoon contacted the concerned officer over the phone during the meeting. The officer assured full cooperation and informed that there are certain local and technical difficulties regarding the supply of water. He further assured the CEC that needful will be done to resolve the issue at the earliest.
