Kargil: Member of Parliament, Ladakh, Haji Haneefa today attended the official launching ceremony of Al Hima-laya Green Mission and Research Institute at Damsna which has taken an initiative to plant 1 lakh saplings in collaboration with UT Ladakh Administration.

As part of this mission, the 5th phase of the plantation drive was held at Damsna, a beautiful valley known for its natural charm. During this phase, 40,000 saplings were planted across various locations in the area, continuing the momentum of the overall goal of planting one lakh trees.

In his address, Honourable MP, Haji Hanifa Jan congratulated Sheikh Nazir Mehdi Muhammadi for his visionary leadership. He acknowledged that while many NGOs talk about plantation, few take bold steps to act on it. He praised this initiative as truly commendable and valuable not only for one community but for all mankind.

The MP further added, “For initiatives like these, we should not take just one, but ten steps forward”. He assured full support for all such efforts that serve humanity and our planet.

Speaking at the event, Sheikh Nazir, co-founder of the Al Hima-laya Green Mission, highlighted the vision behind the initiative and its multiple phases. He emphasized the significance of this fifth phase, noting the enthusiastic participation of volunteers and supporters. Expressing his gratitude, he thanked all those who contributed their time and dedication to the cause.

Quoting the Holy Quran, he said, “Reviving the barren land brings it to life and the one who does so becomes its true guardian” and further echoed the timeless words of Imam Ali (a.s.), “Plant a tree, even if the day (Day of Judgment) is about to rise.” These references reinforced the spiritual and moral responsibility to protect and nourish the Earth.

Sheikh Naizr stressed the importance of plantation for the overall health of the planet. He warned that unchecked activities such as mining, deforestation, and pollution are accelerating glacial melt in the Himalayas. To counter these challenges, the mission aims not only to plant trees but also to shift people’s mindset towards environmental preservation.

He made a heartfelt appeal to the public, especially the youth and religious scholars, stating that “Taharat (purity) is not only a Sunnah for individuals but also a duty towards the Earth.” He encouraged scholars to speak about the significance of plantation, noting that even a single tree can bring about meaningful change in a community.

Among the innovative ideas introduced was the concept of the “Green Engineer”—a call for youth to engage in environmental sciences and technology that supports ecological sustainability. He encouraged everyone to plant at least one tree at home as a step toward making the green mission a success. “Protection of the land is our collective duty,” he said. “Together, we can make a difference.”
