Leh: The Indian men’s ice hockey team from Ladakh has returned home after competing in the prestigious 9th Asian Winter Games held in Harbin, China. The team made a remarkable debut, securing a historic victory against Macau, China.
Hon’ble Chairman/CEC, LAHDC Leh, Adv. Tashi Gyalson, congratulated the team for their outstanding achievement and felicitated each player, commending their skill and determination.
“Ladakh’s ice hockey players have once again made us proud on the international stage. Competing and winning at the Asian Winter Games is a monumental achievement,” CEC Tashi Gyalson said. He highlighted the Council’s continuous efforts in supporting ice hockey development in Ladakh, including providing infrastructure, equipment, and incentives for players.
The CEC also spoke about ongoing efforts to secure national recognition for ice hockey and emphasized its potential to boost sports tourism in Ladakh. He assured that the Council would continue to extend all necessary support to promote the sport further.
As a gesture of appreciation, a cash reward of ₹2,50,000 was announced for the team.
CEC Tashi Gyalson also acknowledged the crucial role played by Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor, Brig. (Dr.) B.D. Mishra (Retd.), in ensuring the team’s participation in the Games. He appreciated the LG’s personal efforts and the financial assistance provided by the UT administration, which was instrumental in facilitating the team’s journey.
“Our players have showcased their exceptional talent and resilience, bringing pride to Ladakh and inspiring many along the way,” CEC Tashi Gyalson said, assuring continued efforts to strengthen Ladakh’s sports ecosystem and ensure ice hockey gains the recognition it deserves at the national level.
