Khaltse: Professor Saket Kushwaha, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of the University of Ladakh, paid his maiden visit to Government Degree College (GDC) Khaltse as part of his tour to various colleges in Ladakh. His visit marks a significant step in strengthening higher education in the region.
Upon arrival, Prof. Kushwaha was given a warm welcome with a traditional khatag by the college Principal, Prof. Stanzin Yangdol. In her welcome address, Prof. Yangdol briefed the Vice Chancellor on the academic progress and developmental milestones of the institution. She expressed gratitude for his visit despite his busy schedule.
During his interaction with the faculty and students, Prof. Kushwaha commended the college’s efforts in achieving academic excellence, especially after relocating from a cramped government building to a newly constructed pre-fabricated structure at Zerthang. He assured that Science and Commerce streams would be introduced at GDC Khaltse at the earliest to enhance academic opportunities for students.
The visit also featured a student-led presentation by Sonam Yangdol and Mepham Dolker, highlighting the college’s journey and achievements. Prof. Kushwaha praised the students for their impressive presentation. The event also included a cultural performance by students.
The faculty and staff submitted a memorandum to the Vice Chancellor, outlining key challenges faced by the college. Prof. Kushwaha assured that these concerns would be addressed seriously.
The event was smoothly conducted by Ms. Deachen Angmo, Assistant Professor of Environmental Science, and concluded with a vote of thanks by Ms. Sumera Mehraj.
