Leh, March 4, 2025: A delegation of casual labourers and daily-rated workers from the Sub-Transmission Division, Kargil, met with the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd), at the Lt Governor’s Secretariat to discuss their remuneration concerns. The delegation requested the HLG’s intervention in enhancing their wages.
During the meeting, the delegation informed the HLG that despite having Aadhaar-seeded accounts, they were not included in the list of 1,900 casual labourers whose remunerations had been increased. They highlighted their continuous service of over eight years and urged the HLG to address their concerns and ensure fair remuneration.
The HLG assured the delegation that a committee would be formed to thoroughly examine their case. He emphasized that the guidelines set forth by the Supreme Court of India regarding casual workers would be adhered to while making decisions. He also reassured them that their wages would not be decreased and that they would receive minimum wages as determined by the committee.
The meeting was attended by Principal Secretary Shri Sankeej Khirwar, IAS; Commissioner/Secretary to the HLG Dr. L Franklin, IAS; Director Finance Dr. Safdar Ali, IRS; and Superintending Engineer, PDD, Shri Tundup Spalzang.
