Kargil, March 01, 2025: Government Degree College (GDC) Kargil marked National Science Day with a series of engaging scientific events aimed at fostering a spirit of inquiry and innovation among students.
The program commenced with a welcome address by Prof. MNM Shabani, Senior Professor at GDC Kargil, who emphasized the importance of scientific temper in nation-building. He urged students to actively contribute to the vision of Viksit Bharat through science and research.
In the inaugural session, Mumtaz Ahmad, Head of the Department of Physics, delivered an insightful talk on the significance of National Science Day. He highlighted the contributions of the Raman Effect to physical sciences and encouraged students to explore careers in scientific research.
The scientific session began with a lecture by Dr. Ismail (PhD Mathematics), who elaborated on nanofluids, their conductivity, and related mathematical equations. This was followed by a presentation by Dr. Abid Hussain (PhD Physics), who discussed various fields of study within physics. He particularly emphasized the application of accelerators in nuclear physics and condensed matter physics.
A science quiz competition was also held, featuring five teams—two from local schools and three from GDC Kargil. Rinchen Angmo, Assistant Professor of Botany, conducted the quiz session. Mutahhary Public School Kurbathang Kargil secured the first position, followed by a team from GDC Kargil in second place, while Jaffaria Academy of Modern Education Kargil claimed the third spot.
Following the quiz, a debate competition was organized on the theme of this year’s National Science Day: “Empowering Indian Youth for Global Leadership in Science and Innovations for Viksit Bharat.” Fatima Hoora from GDC Kargil secured the first position, Sudiqa Banoo came in second, and Zarin Fatima from MPS Kurbathang Kargil secured the third position.
The valedictory session featured the presentation of mementos to the distinguished speakers of the scientific session. Certificates and prizes were also distributed to all participants and winners. The event saw enthusiastic participation from around 50 students representing various schools and GDC Kargil.
The organizers, led by Mumtaz Ahmad (Assistant Professor of Physics), Mohd Raza (Assistant Professor of Biotechnology), and Razia Parveen (Senior Assistant Professor of Botany), expressed their gratitude to the Principal of GDC Kargil, Prof. Disket Angmo, for her guidance and support. They also extended their appreciation to all participants for their enthusiasm, which contributed to the success of the program. Additionally, they acknowledged the support of DBT New Delhi through the DBT Star College Scheme, which has played a crucial role in promoting scientific learning at GDC Kargil.
