Leh: The Igo Phey Division, Leh, organized an educational field tour to the Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) at Agling for over 25 youth from Basgo village today. The initiative aimed to raise awareness about the vital role of sewage treatment in water management, conservation, and sustainable waste management.
The Executive Engineer of Igo Phey Division, Er. Tsering Angchuk, along with Plant In-charge Ishfaq Wani, guided the participants through a detailed walkthrough of the plant’s operations. They explained each phase of the sewage treatment process and engaged in an interactive session, addressing queries and emphasizing how locals can contribute to efficient water usage and conservation efforts.
The Agling STP, with a capacity of 3 million liters per day (MLD), has been operational since 2021 and functions year-round, even during Ladakh’s harsh winters. It is the first STP in the Union Territory of Ladakh, with a larger 12.5 MLD plant currently under development to meet the region’s growing needs.
This educational field trip aimed to inspire youth to adopt sustainable practices and promote environmental stewardship within their communities.
