Leh: Member of Parliament (MP), Ladakh, Mohmad Hanifa, flagged off the Fit India Cycling Drive at Sindhu Ghat, Leh, as part of the Fit India Movement launched by Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. The event, organized by the Sports Authority of India (SAI), Regional Centre Zirakpur, aimed to promote a healthier and more active lifestyle across the country.
The cycling route commenced at the scenic Sindhu Ghat and passed through Shey Palace, a historic landmark. Cyclists then returned via local villages, providing participants a glimpse of Ladakh’s rich cultural heritage, set amidst the breathtaking landscape of the world’s highest desert plateau. The ride concluded back at Sindhu Ghat.
Approximately 70–80 cyclists participated in the event, representing various sports disciplines such as boxing, taekwondo, and ice hockey. Their enthusiastic participation exemplified the spirit of fitness and sportsmanship.
The event was graced by prominent dignitaries, including Chief Executive Councillor of LAHDC Kargil, Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon; Deputy Director General of SAI, Vineet Kumar; and Secretary of Youth Services & Sports, Ladakh, Vikram Singh Malik, along with other officials from the Union Territory of Ladakh and SAI.
