Durbuk, July 3: Joint Secretary, Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, Ms. Padmini Singla, visited the Durbuk block of UT Ladakh, where she, along with Dr. Iftikhar Hussain, Director, Sheep Husbandry Department, and Shri Mohd Ismail Ganie (JKAS), Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Durbuk, distributed essential livelihood incentives to local sheep breeders and herders.
The distributed items included portable tents, nomadic accessories such as pashmina combs, shoes, solar lights, milk-churning machines, and predator-proof corrals equipped with LED lighting—tools aimed at improving the working and living conditions of pastoralists in the region.
During the visit, Ms. Singla personally interacted with each breeder, patiently listening to their grievances, concerns, and suggestions. Dr. Iftikhar Hussain briefed her on the major challenges faced by sheep and goat herders across Ladakh, particularly in remote and high-altitude areas.
Block Officer Dr. Nasreen Fatima provided a detailed presentation on the initiatives of the Wool Development Board under the Ministry of Textiles in the Changthang region. She emphasized the decade-long development efforts aimed at uplifting the pastoralist community.
This joint initiative reflects the Ministry’s continued commitment to supporting the pastoral economy of Ladakh and enhancing the livelihoods of traditional sheep and pashmina herders in Durbuk and surrounding areas.
