Kargil: The three-day Inter-College Sports Meet-cum-Youth Fest at the Kargil Campus of the University of Ladakh concluded in grand style with a vibrant valedictory and award ceremony that brought together students, faculty, and dignitaries in a celebration of talent, culture, and sportsmanship.
The event was graced by prominent figures including Kacho Mohammad Feroz, Executive Councilor, LAHDC; Dr. Jigmet Deachen, In-Charge Administration, Leh Campus; Dr. Mehboob Ali, In-Charge Administration, Kargil Campus; and Dr. Jaffar Khan, Dean, School of Social Sciences and Arts. The ceremony began with a traditional welcome as Dr. Mehboob Ali presented khataks to the dignitaries, upholding Ladakh’s rich cultural customs. Dr. Ghulam Ali, Coordinator of the Department of Chemistry, delivered a warm welcome address, highlighting the significance of sports in shaping character and fostering team spirit among students.
The cultural showcase that followed turned the stage into a vibrant celebration of Ladakhi heritage and youthful creativity. Performances included traditional folk songs, energetic dances from various colleges, and a unique blend of modern and traditional art forms that kept the audience enthralled. The enthusiastic participation of students from all campuses highlighted the strong cultural fabric and unity within the University.
In his valedictory address, Kacho Mohammad Feroz commended the University of Ladakh for creating such an engaging platform that enables students to excel beyond academics. He expressed appreciation for the efforts of Vice Chancellor Prof. Saket Kushwaha, whose leadership has been instrumental in initiating developments like the operationalization of the Administrative Office at Kargil Campus and the introduction of new academic programs. He also announced the sanctioning of a new flyover bridge to connect the academic and residential blocks, marking a significant step in the campus’s infrastructure development.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Saket Kushwaha, in a virtual address, congratulated all participants and applauded the flawless organization of the event. He encouraged students to continue participating in such initiatives that contribute to their overall growth.
During the award ceremony, EJM College Leh emerged as a dominant force in archery, winning top honors in both men’s and women’s categories. In handball, Leh Campus claimed victory in the men’s division, while EJM College secured the top spot in the women’s category. Special awards were given to Padma Angmo and Rigzen Gurmet as Most Valuable Players, along with honors for Best Goalkeepers and teams exhibiting fair play. The contributions of referees, cultural coordinators, and media personnel were also acknowledged, underscoring the collaborative spirit behind the event’s success.
Dr. Jigmet Deachen extended thanks to the entire team at Kargil Campus for their exemplary coordination and reiterated the Vice Chancellor’s commitment to strengthening bonds between campuses. Concluding the ceremony, Dr. Mehboob Ali reflected on the collective journey of the fest and extended heartfelt appreciation to LAHDC, university leadership, faculty, staff, and volunteers whose efforts made the event a grand success.
