Zanskar, September 25, 2026: A series of Ladakhi traditional tourist information signboards, tourist maps and destination photographs showcasing the rich cultural heritage, monasteries, adventure destinations, landscapes and wildlife of Zanskar were unveiled today, 25th September 2026, at the Main Town, Padum, Zanskar.
The signboards and tourist information displays were unveiled by the Divisional Commissioner, UT Ladakh, Shri Shurbir Singh, IAS, and Director General of Police, UT Ladakh, Shri Anand Jain, IPS, in the presence of Secretary, PWD, UT Ladakh, Shri Baseer Ul Haq Chaudhary, IAS; Deputy Inspector General of Police, UT Ladakh, Shri Altaf Ahmad Khan, IPS; Deputy Commissioner/CEO, LAHDC, Kargil, Shri Rakesh Kumar, IAS; Superintendent of Police, Zanskar District, Shri Rigzen Sandup, JKPS; Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Zanskar, Shri Sarwar Shahzad, JKAS, and other district officers of Zanskar.
The Tourist Information Boards and other tourism displays have been installed by the Tourism Department, UT Ladakh, under the directions of the Secretary, Tourism & Culture, UT Ladakh, Shri Sanjit Rodrigues, IAS, with the objective of providing visitors with authentic, informative and easily accessible information about the important tourist destinations of Zanskar.
The displays installed at the Main Town, Padum, include tourist maps and photographs highlighting famous monasteries, adventure sites, scenic landscapes and wildlife destinations of the region. These installations are intended to assist tourists in understanding the geography, attractions and cultural significance of various destinations while promoting responsible and informed tourism in Zanskar.
In addition to the main town displays, the Tourist Office, Zanskar, has installed Ladakhi traditional tourist information signboards at several important tourist destinations, including Gonbo Rangjon, Phukthar Monastery, Zangla Palace, Karsha Monastery, Drang-Drung Glacier and Penzila Pass.
The signboards have been designed to present information in a visually appealing manner while reflecting the traditional Ladakhi cultural identity and architectural aesthetics of the region. The initiative is aimed at enhancing the visitor experience and providing tourists with essential information at prominent destinations across Zanskar.
The installation of these tourist information boards is also part of the Tourism Department’s efforts to strengthen tourism infrastructure, improve destination interpretation, promote lesser-known attractions and facilitate tourists in exploring Zanskar in a systematic and responsible manner.
The initiative is expected to further enhance the visibility of Zanskar’s cultural, natural and adventure tourism potential and contribute towards the promotion of the region as a distinctive and sustainable tourism destination in UT Ladakh.
