Leh, April 22, 2026: The fourth meeting of the UT-Level Coordination Committee for the forthcoming Sacred Exposition of the Holy Relics of Tathagata Buddha, themed “Peace Beyond Borders – Ladakh 2026,” was convened today under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary, UT Ladakh, Shri Ashish Kundra, at the Conference Hall of the Hill Council, Leh.
The meeting focused on finalizing key arrangements for the mega spiritual event, including the safe escort of the Holy Relics from Delhi to Leh, the grand ceremonial procession from Kushok Bakula Rinpoche (KBR) Airport to Jivetsal, organization of prayers and rituals, preparations for Buddha Purnima on May 1, and city-wide decorations.
Administrative Secretary, Tourism & Culture, Shri Sanjeet Rodrigues, delivered a comprehensive presentation outlining the overall event framework. The presentation covered the theme and significance of the exposition, tentative timelines, main venues, dress rehearsals, commemorative activities, detailed exposition schedule, and pre-event milestones. Updates were also shared on infrastructure development and security arrangements at Jivetsal Photang, along with safety certifications and pass management systems.
The Committee deliberated extensively on the reception and ceremonial protocols for the arrival of the Holy Relics. Discussions included arrangements at the airport, reception by monks and dignitaries, red carpet welcome, designated vehicles for the transportation of relics, ceremonial processions, and public participation along the route. Preparations such as whitewashing of Mani walls, gate receptions, and city beautification efforts to be completed by April 27 were also reviewed.
Special attention was given to upcoming high-profile visits, including the proposed visit of the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh on May 2 and Union Minister Shri Kiren Rijiju on May 4. The Committee discussed arrangements for their reception, cultural programs, and participation in the exposition events. It was informed that a full-dress rehearsal of the ceremonial proceedings will be conducted on April 28, while the closing ceremony is scheduled to be held at the Dharma Centre.
Emphasizing the spiritual significance of Buddha Purnima, the Chief Secretary directed all concerned departments to ensure maximum public participation and clarified that the exposition will remain open and accessible on multiple days to facilitate attendance from all sections of society. He also instructed the concerned authorities, particularly the Additional Deputy Commissioner, to arrange adequate transport facilities, including buses, for visitors from remote and far-flung areas.
The Committee also reviewed arrangements related to volunteer management, issuance of identity cards, and access control systems. It was decided that proper identification mechanisms would be enforced for smooth conduct of the event. Guidelines regarding restricted use of mobile phones during prayer sessions and designated areas for their safekeeping were also discussed to maintain the sanctity of the occasion.
Senior officials from the UT Administration, including representatives from civil and police departments, DIG Leh-Kargil Range, IGP ITBP, eminent Rinpoche representatives, presidents of Ladakh Buddhist associations, Ladakh Gompa Association members, representatives from monasteries, CIBS, Sowa-Rigpa institutions, former public representatives, and other stakeholders attended the meeting.
