Leh: In view of the closure of Zojila Pass and Baralacha La due to prevailing winter conditions, a virtual meeting was convened today under the chairmanship of the Deputy Commissioner, Leh, Sh. Romil Singh Donk, IAS, to review the resumption of airlifting of civilians and essential services for Nubra Valley through Indian Air Force IL aircraft.
The meeting was attended by the Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Nubra; Mukul Beniwal, IAS, Nodal Officer, Air Maintenance, Ladakh and Nodal Officer for Air Maintenance, Nubra.
During the meeting, Habib Ullah, Nodal Officer, Air Maintenance, Nubra, apprised the Deputy Commissioner about the urgent need to commence airlifting operations for Nubra Valley to ensure uninterrupted supply of essential commodities and services. Sh. Attaullah Khan, Nodal Officer, Air Maintenance, Ladakh, informed that initiation of airlifting requires submission of a formal written proposal to the Air Officer Commanding (AOC).
Squadron Leader Daya Agarwal, informed that the Indian Air Force is fully prepared to commence airlifting operations and that services can begin immediately upon receipt of the requisite letter addressed to the AOC.
The Deputy Commissioner, Leh, sought details regarding the procedural challenges and directed all concerned departments to resolve pending formalities without delay.
Emphasizing the importance of timely air connectivity during winter months, he instructed that the process for Nubra Valley be expedited on priority.
It was informed during the meeting that airlifting services for Leh district have already been resumed, and for Nubra Valley, the necessary letter will be submitted tomorrow, following which airlifting operations are expected to resume shortly.
