Acting CEC, Kacho Mohd Feroz Kicks Off Road Safety Month in Kargil

Kargil: Acting Chairman/Chief Executive Councillor (CEC), LAHDC, Kargil, Kacho Mohd Feroz today kick-started the month-long Road Safety Month in Kargil with a rally and pledge ceremony from Lal Chowk Kargil to promote road safety awareness and reducing road accidents in the district.

The programme commenced with a road safety rally from Lal Chowk, Kargil to Conference Hall, Baroo, during which participants raised slogans highlighting the importance of road safety and culminated at Conference Hall, Baroo.

The event was attended by SSP Kargil Nitin Yadav, Additional Deputy Commissioner Kargil Imteeaz Kacho, Councillor Baroo – Minjee Constituency, District Programme Officer ICDS Kargil, Superintending Engineer R&B Kargil, Chief Medical Officer Kargil, ARTO Kargil, besides other district officers, officials, stakeholders, students, and members of the general public.

Addressing the gathering at Conference Hall Baroo, Acting CEC Kacho Mohd Feroz thanked all the departments for organizing the month-long campaign and stressed the need for effective implementation of road safety measures to reduce road accidents. He directed concerned departments to ensure installation of speed limit signage at accident-prone and vulnerable locations and emphasized immediate road clearance and safety measures after snowfall to prevent accidents caused by slippery roads.

He also called for strict anti-encroachment drives at Andoo and adjacent areas to ease traffic congestion and improve road safety. Urging citizens and stakeholders to actively support enforcement efforts, the Acting CEC assured that issues raised by the Transport Union would be taken up at both the district and UT levels for resolution.

SSP Kargil Nitin Yadav briefed the audience on road safety laws, appropriate response during road accidents, and shared data on fatalities caused by road accidents. He appealed to drivers to strictly follow traffic rules and safety protocols.

ADC Kargil, Imteeaz Kacho highlighted the achievements of the district administration in traffic management and encroachment drives. He urged citizens to cooperate with the administration in spreading awareness throughout Road Safety Month and appealed to people to observe vehicle-free Saturdays and use public transport.

Chief Medical Officer, Kargil spoke on road safety and first aid, stating that most accidents occur due to human error. He informed about the ambulance and emergency medical services provided by the Health Department and appealed to the public to offer timely assistance to accident victims.

Superintending Engineer, R&B Kargil, Dr. Tsewang Thinglas, elaborated on the technical parameters of road construction and urged public representatives to cooperate in adhering to these standards to ensure safer roads. He emphasized the importance of road safety audits and strict compliance with safety protocols.

The President, Transport Union Kargil thanked the administration for organizing the event and suggested regular medical check-ups for drivers on a monthly or quarterly basis. He also raised various issues faced by transporters and drivers in the district.

The programme marked the formal beginning of Road Safety Month in Kargil, with a collective commitment from all stakeholders to work towards safer roads and responsible driving practices.
