Kargil: The Department of Social and Tribal Welfare, Kargil, under the District Hub for Empowerment of Women (Mission Shakti), organised an awareness programme on the PCPNDT/MTP Act at the Community Health Center (CHC), Sankoo, on 6 September 2025. The event was part of a 10-day special awareness campaign launched by the Ministry of Women and Child Development, Government of India.
The programme began at 2 pm with a welcome address by Niyaz Hussain, District Coordinator, Mission Shakti, who outlined the objectives and services offered under the Mission Shakti scheme.
Dr. Nasreen Fatima, Gynaecologist at CHC Sankoo, served as the resource person. She delivered a detailed session on the PCPNDT/MTP Act, elaborating on its objectives, roles and responsibilities of stakeholders, legal provisions, as well as punishments and penalties for violations.
The session was attended by ASHA workers, ANMs, Anganwadi workers (AWWs) and Mission Shakti staff.
Officials said the programme aimed to equip frontline workers with legal and procedural knowledge of the Act, thereby strengthening its implementation and promoting greater community awareness.
