Kargil: Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor of LAHDC Kargil, Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon, conducted an extensive inspection of the flood-affected areas of Samrah Chiktan and Kukarchey Chiktan following recent flash floods and a cloudburst that damaged public and private property.
Dr. Akhoon was accompanied by Executive Councillors Kacho Mohammad Feroz and Zakir Hussain, Deputy Commissioner Rakesh Kumar, Councillor Liyaqut Ali Khan, SDM Shakar Chiktan, and officers from PHE, Irrigation, and other concerned departments.
The CEC inspected the damaged Panchayat Ghar, Government Hospital in Samrah Chiktan, agricultural lands, personal properties, and the flood-affected Government Middle School in Kukarchey. Taking serious note of the damages, he issued on-spot directions for immediate restoration work.
He instructed the SDM and BDO Shakar Chiktan to urgently restore small irrigation canals (Yurba) and asked the Irrigation and Flood Control Department to prioritize the repair of major canals. The PHE Department was directed to restore drinking water supply without delay.
For road connectivity, Dr. Akhoon directed the officer in charge of 81 RCC (GREF), Project Vijayak, to give top priority to road restoration. He appreciated the efforts of BRO machinery operators and labourers for their prompt road clearance work.
The SDM was also directed to ensure that debris at the Government Middle School in Kukarchey is cleared before schools reopen. The Chief Agriculture Officer was tasked with assessing crop losses in the affected areas.
Dr. Akhoon assured residents that the administration is fully committed to restoring essential services, including roads, water supply, irrigation, and agricultural land. He further instructed the Deputy Commissioner to take up the matter with the UT Administration under Disaster Management norms and said he would formally request the Lieutenant Governor for enhanced relief funding to support the restoration efforts.
