Leh: CEC Tashi Gyalson held a detailed meeting today with Administrative Secretary for Housing & Urban Development and Tourism & Culture, Seajit Rodrigues (IAS), and Administrative Secretary for Animal/Sheep Husbandry & Fisheries and Industries & Commerce, Rudra Goud (IAS) at the Council Secretariat.
During the interaction, the CEC welcomed the visiting officers and engaged in extensive discussions on key departmental issues, particularly focusing on tourism revival, urban infrastructure, and industrial development.
A major point of discussion was the declining tourist footfall in Ladakh. The CEC highlighted the urgent need for robust promotional strategies and experience-based tourism models to re-energize the sector. He emphasized the importance of supporting local entrepreneurs through the LADAKH brand, particularly GI-tagged products such as apricots, pashmina, and traditional handicrafts.
He also proposed relocating the existing LADAKH brand outlet to a more prominent and accessible location to increase its visibility and commercial potential. “Showcasing signature local products under one unified label will help elevate the region’s identity and support self-reliant livelihoods,” he suggested.
The meeting also addressed urban waste management challenges. The officials agreed to hold a follow-up meeting to review current systems and explore effective and sustainable solutions tailored to Ladakh’s unique geography and environment.
Both sides expressed commitment to inter-departmental collaboration and aligning efforts for the holistic development of Ladakh, with a strong focus on sustainability, cultural preservation, and economic empowerment.
