Leh: Dr. Tashi Thinlas, Director of Health & Medical Education, UT Ladakh, conducted a comprehensive one-day inspection of ongoing health infrastructure projects across multiple villages in Khaltsi Subdivision. He was accompanied by the Block Medical Officer (BMO), Khaltsi, SO (Planning), and Junior Engineer, R&B, Khaltsi.
The inspection covered the construction of 4-unit staff quarters under the Special Development Package (SDP) at Ayushman Arogya Mandirs in Mangue, Hemis Shukpachan, Ullay Tokpo, Saspochay, and Liker. Each project is being executed at an estimated cost of Rs. 1.6765 lakh.
The team expressed satisfaction with the overall progress of the works. Dr. Thinlas instructed the BMO and R&B officials to initiate the official handover of completed infrastructure at the earliest and to ensure that any pending contractor liabilities are cleared without delay.
During the visit, villagers — led by local representatives — raised the issue of ambulance services. They requested the sanctioning of a new ambulance, as the existing vehicle, procured under MPLADS, is set to expire by the end of 2025.
However, concerns were raised regarding the poor workmanship observed at the New Type Primary Health Centre (NTPHC) building in Hemis Shukpachan, being constructed under the District Capex Budget. The team noted visible quality issues and called for necessary corrective measures.
Later in the evening, Dr. Thinlas, along with the SO (Planning) and local villagers led by the Nambardar of Liker, inspected the NTPHC building and the associated 4-unit staff quarters under construction in Liker village.
The visit underscored the department’s commitment to ensuring timely completion and quality assurance of health infrastructure in remote and rural areas of Ladakh.
