Leh: The District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW), Leh, under the aegis of Mission Shakti, successfully organized a five-day training program on mushroom cultivation across several villages in Nubra Valley from June 16 to June 20, 2025.
The initiative aimed to empower local women by equipping them with sustainable, income-generating agricultural skills, fostering economic independence and self-reliance.
The training sessions were conducted by Ms. Sonam Angmo, a noted agri-biotechnologist, who served as the resource person. She provided participants with practical, hands-on guidance on mushroom cultivation, highlighting its potential as a low-investment, high-return venture ideally suited to the region’s climatic conditions.
Women from multiple villages—including Turtuk, Tyakshi, Chulunka, Tongsted, Henachey, Charasa, Sumoor, Tsati, Khaltasar, Diskit, Hunder, and Partapur—actively participated in the program. Key topics covered included substrate preparation, cultivation techniques, and harvesting practices.
To support practical implementation, mushroom spawn were distributed to the trainees on a trial basis after the completion of the training.
This initiative is in line with Mission Shakti’s vision to foster women-led development by promoting skill-based training for sustainable livelihoods.
