Leh: The National Institute of Sowa-Rigpa (NISR), Leh, has celebrated World Environment Day on 5th June 2025 at trans-Himalayan Herbal Garden under the Harit Yoga theme of Ministry of Ayush with mass plantation drive. The event is inaugurated by Prime Minister Yoga awardee Ven. Bikhu Sangasena by planting a willow sapling.
Dr Tsewang Rinchan Research Officer Botany presented welcome address followed by keynote address by Dr Padma Gurmet, Director, National Institute of Sowa-Rigpa on significance of “World Environment Day” and Harit Yoga theme of Ministry of Ayush. The World Environment Day, organised by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), serves as an important occasion to raise awareness about environmental crises and promote action for sustainability. This year it will focus on the theme #BeatPlasticPollution.
Chief guest Ven Bikhu Sangasena in his address highlighted the importance of healthy environment for all living being on this earth and human beings are the most responsible being for environment pollution. He stressed for adopting a nature friendly lifestyle by each and every one and called for plastic free environment as per this year UNEP theme “Beat plastic Pollution”.
Mass plantation of willow, poplar, apricot and medicinal plants is done by all the staff members and students of National Institute of Sowa-Rigpa.
