Leh, June 5, 2025: The State Medicinal Plant Board of the Union Territory of Ladakh commemorated World Environment Day on 5th June 2025 with a meaningful and eco-conscious celebration at the Herbal Garden of Sonam Norboo Memorial Hospital (SNM), Leh. The event aimed to promote environmental sustainability and raise awareness about the vital role of medicinal and aromatic plants in human health and ecological balance.
As part of the celebration, a plantation drive was organized, during which a diverse range of medicinal and aromatic plants were planted in the hospital’s herbal garden. These included species known for their traditional healing properties and their significance in Sowa-Rigpa, system of medicine.
The event witnessed the participation of Dr. Tashi Thinlas, Director of Health Services/AYUSH /Chief Executive Officer of the State Medicinal Plant Board; Dr. Dorji Gyalson and Dr. Phunchok Angmo, Consultants, SMPB; along with staff members from the Directorate of Health Services and the State Medicinal Plant Board, UT Ladakh.
In his keynote address, Dr. Tashi Thinlas highlighted the importance of s preserving Ladakh’s rich biodiversity and promoting the cultivation and scientific documentation of medicinal plant species. He also emphasized the importance of such initiatives in promoting environmental awareness and sustainability.
