Leh, June 3, 2025: In a significant move aimed at safeguarding the health of school-going children, the District Magistrate of Leh, Ghulam Mohd (JKAS), has issued an order banning the storage, sale, display, and distribution of the mouth freshener “Cool Lip” across the district with immediate effect.
The decision comes amid growing concerns about the increasing use of “Cool Lip”—a mouth freshener containing filtered tobacco or nicotine—especially among students. The product, often sold in shops located near schools, poses serious health risks, particularly to oral health.
Citing powers under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023, the District Magistrate emphasized the urgent need to prohibit the sale of such harmful substances to protect young minds from addiction and health hazards.
The administration has urged shopkeepers, vendors, and the general public to adhere strictly to the order, warning of strict action against violators.
