Tangtse, May 22: The International Day for Biological Diversity was celebrated with great enthusiasm and zeal at Chumik Zangpo today. The event was organized in collaboration with the students and staff of CRS Tharuk, Middle School Tharuk, Gonpa School Shachukul, Rural Development Departmet Leh and villagers of Durbuk, led by Nambardar Durbuk.
As part of the celebrations, thousands of saplings were planted in a 3-kilometer range near Changla, and a massive cleanup drive was undertaken, with several trucks and Bolero campers collecting garbage along the 30-kilometer stretch from Tsoltak to Durbuk TCP.
The initiative was supported by the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC), Leh, and Govt. Middle School Tharuk, with the Indian Army’s Assam Regiment also participating in the event.
Hon’ble Executive Councillor of LAHDC, Leh, Tashi Namgyal Yakzee, and LBA Lalok President Thinless Angchuk graced the occasion as Chief Guest and Guest of Honor, respectively. During the event, participants appealed to the general public and tourists to refrain from littering on the Changla route.
The successful celebration marked a significant step towards promoting biodiversity and environmental conservation in the region.
