Kargil:Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor (CEC), LAHDC Kargil, Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon, chaired a comprehensive review meeting today to assess the design proposal for the upcoming Archive Museum at Trespone. The ambitious project, with an estimated cost of ₹9.5 crore, includes allocations for contingencies and consultancy services.
The meeting saw the presence of Executive Councillor Aga Mujtaba, Assistant Director/Registering Officer of the Antiquities Department (Archives, Archaeology, and Museums), Khadim Hussain, and Principal Architect Rigzin Teswang from Rigzin & Associates Architecture. Architect Tsewang presented a detailed animated walkthrough and shared the full design blueprint for the project.
Key aspects discussed included the museum’s architectural layout, site location, surrounding topography, identified land, interior concepts, and the broader cultural significance of the museum. The proposal aims to create a space that preserves and promotes the rich heritage, traditions, and history of the Kargil region.
Emphasizing the cultural importance of the initiative, Dr. Akhoon said, “It is imperative to highlight and preserve our unique cultural identity and artifacts for future generations.” He urged that traditional elements be thoughtfully integrated into the design to reflect the region’s historical legacy.
The Archive Museum at Trespone is envisioned to become a landmark cultural and academic institution, contributing to greater awareness, tourism, and research into Kargil’s vibrant past.
