Leh: A delegation of women from various organisations across Ladakh, led by Nominated Councillor Dr. Yangchan Dolma, met the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd), to express heartfelt gratitude for the recent resolution passed by the LAHDC Leh during its General Council Meeting, which ensures 33 percent reservation for women in LAHDC Leh elections.
Dr. Dolma commended the Lieutenant Governor and the Hill Council Leh for their commitment to gender equity and underlined the importance of implementing the reservation in the upcoming council elections. She noted that this step would be pivotal in promoting gender inclusivity and empowering women to actively participate in governance and leadership roles across the region.
The Lieutenant Governor, while addressing the delegation, credited the visionary leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi for enabling this significant reform. He expressed confidence that the reservation would be effectively implemented in the forthcoming elections, leading to increased representation of women in the local governance framework.
Chief Secretary Dr. Pawan Kotwal, IAS, along with women representatives from various organisations and officials, were present during the meeting.
