Lalok: In a vibrant celebration of Ladakhi culture and tradition, Lalok hosted its first-ever Kopong Competition, successfully organized by Lalok Roots and Wings. The three-day event concluded on 14th April, drawing enthusiastic participation and evoking deep community pride.
The event was graced by Hon’ble Executive Councillor Tashi Yakzee as the Chief Guest, along with Councillor Konchok Stanzin (Chushul), Nominated Councillor Konchok Tsephel (Gyen), SDM Durbuk Shri Mohd Ismail Ghani, and several other distinguished guests.
Students from all schools across the Tangtse and Durbuk blocks actively participated in the competition, alongside legendary traditional instrumental players from Lalok, whose presence and performance deeply inspired the younger generation.
In his address, EC Yakzee commended the efforts of the “Seven Sisters” of Lalok Roots and Wings for organizing such a meaningful event. He assured his continued support for future cultural initiatives and emphasized the importance of reviving and preserving traditional Ladakhi musical games like Kopong.
The event also honored the birth anniversary of Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar, with EC Yakzee lighting the ceremonial lamp as a tribute to his legacy.
Supported by the District Administration and LAHDC Leh, the event marked a significant step toward cultural revival and unity in the Changthang region.
