Leh: An Interaction-cum-Brainstorming Session with the newly appointed security personnel engaged for the protection of monasteries in Leh district was held today at the Dharma Centre, Choglamsar. Hon’ble Chairman/CEC, LAHDC Leh, Adv. Tashi Gyalson, attended the session as the chief guest.

The initiative is part of LAHDC Leh’s ongoing efforts to safeguard the cultural and spiritual heritage of Ladakh. Sixteen major monasteries across the district have been identified for enhanced security, with trained personnel deployed and CCTV surveillance being introduced.

CEC Adv. Tashi Gyalson, in his address, underlined the need to preserve Ladakh’s monastic institutions as living heritage sites. “Monasteries house not only spiritual traditions but also invaluable cultural and historical assets. Ensuring their safety is a collective responsibility,” he said.

He added that a systematic framework has been laid out, including the deployment of trained guards, installation of CCTV systems, and coordination with the district police. He also mentioned that uniforms for the security personnel will be provided for both summer and winter seasons. “The cooperation extended by the district administration led by DC/CEO Santosh Sukhadeve and the concerned officials has made this initiative possible. Monasteries must also stay vigilant and coordinate with the deployed teams to strengthen the security protocol,” he added.

The CEC expressed gratitude to all involved and reaffirmed the Council’s continued commitment to preserving Ladakh’s sacred institutions.

General Secretary of LBA, Dr. Ishey Namgyal, said timely action had helped prevent thefts and other risks, and thanked the CEC for prioritising monastery security, which has also created local employment opportunities.
