Feasibility visit conducted for proposed snow ski academy at Ating Village

Kargil: Executive Councillor for Tourism, FCS & CA, and RDD, LAHDC Kargil, Er. Phunchok Tashi, along with Councillor Stod Constituency Satnzin Jigmet, Incharge SDM Zanskar, Mohd Hassan and Incharge Executive Engineer PWD Toyyeab Hussain, visited Ating village to inspect the proposed snow ski slope site.

 

A team from Kargil also visited the venue comprising District Youth Services and Sports Officer (DYSSO) Kargil, Abid Ali, and a panel of experts from the Ladakh Ski and Snowboard Association including Sadiq Ali (Ski Instructor), Liaqat Alvi (Member), Ali Asgar (President, Ski Mountaineering Association Ladakh), and Mohd Yousuf (Ski Mountaineering Coach, DYSSO Kargil).

 

At the outset, Councillor, Satnzin Jigmet welcomed the visiting team and expressed his heartfelt gratitude on behalf of the villagers of Ating. He emphasized the site’s vast potential for the establishment of a Snow Ski Academy and assured full support and cooperation from the local community.

 

Incharge SDM Zanskar, Mohd Hassan, also addressed the gathering, urging the villagers to make such development projects successful by cooperating with the administration.

 

DYSSO Kargil, Abid Ali, noted that the terrain at Ating is highly suitable for snow ski beginners. He stated that the establishment of a Snow Ski Academy would not only enhance local sports infrastructure but also contribute significantly to the region’s economy and tourism prospects.

 

Experts from the Ladakh Ski and Snowboard Association echoed similar views, citing the location’s ideal elevation and terrain for beginner-level skiing activities. Urgain Principal Snow Ski Zanskar also shared his views.

 

An open discussion was also held at the site among the expert panel and officers present, during which various technical aspects of the snow ski slope were deliberated upon.

 

The team exchanged views on slope gradient, safety measures, accessibility, and infrastructure requirements for setting up a successful Snow Ski Academy.

 

The insights shared during the discussion will play a vital role in shaping the project’s proposal and future implementation.

 

Executive Councillor, Er. Phunchok Tashi, in his address, thanked the expert team and DYSSO Kargil for their initiative. He requested the technical team to submit their recommendations for the proposed academy and urged the residents to extend their full cooperation in the development process for the greater good of the region.

 

The visit concluded with an expression of gratitude from the villagers towards the dignitaries, the DYSSO Department, and the team of experts for selecting Ating village as a potential site for establishing the Snow Ski Academy.

 

A lunch was hosted in honor of the visiting officers by the Zanskar Youth Services and Sports Department.

 

On the way back to Padum headquarter, Executive Councillor, Er. Phunchok Tashi, Councillor Stod Satnzin Jigmet, Incharge SDM Mohd Hassan, and Incharge Exen Toyyeab Hussain also visited various schools in Ating village and inspected ongoing school building construction works and staff positions.
