Leh: Former MLA from Nubra, Deldan Namgyal, met with the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd), at the Lieutenant Governor’s Secretariat to discuss key developmental issues.
During the meeting, Deldan Namgyal highlighted the proposed construction of a pilgrimage gathering hall at Kobet Monastery, intended to benefit tourists and pilgrims. The project, planned by the Tourism Department under SDP 2024-25, is estimated to cost ₹5.20 crores, with a Detailed Project Report (DPR) already prepared. Namgyal expressed concerns about the project’s ceiling being capped at ₹2 crores, which he feared would hinder its progress. He requested the Lieutenant Governor’s intervention to secure the Accord of Administrative Approval (AAA) for the full project cost.
Namgyal also raised the urgent need for the early construction of the Shatse bridge under the Central Road and Infrastructure Fund (CRIF). The bridge would significantly improve connectivity for villages beyond the Shayok River, including Barma, Yarma Gonbo, Kobet, and the Siachen belt, reducing travel distance from the Diskit headquarters. He requested the Lieutenant Governor’s assistance in taking up the matter with the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (MoRTH).
The Lieutenant Governor assured that the UT Administration would discuss the pilgrimage gathering hall project with LAHDC Leh and prioritize it under the SDP for the financial year 2025-26. He also directed officials to review the DPR for necessary decisions.
Regarding the Shatse bridge, the Lieutenant Governor instructed the Secretary of PWD to meet with MoRTH officials to expedite the project’s progress, emphasizing the need for its early completion.
