Ladakh sees significant improvement in health, other infra since 2019: Govt in LS

Leh : The Union Territory of Ladakh has witnessed significant improvement in health, education, and energy infrastructure since its reorganization, the government said in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday.
Minister of State (Mos) for Home Affairs, Nityanand Rai, shared key data in response to a question in the Parliament.
“The number of hospital beds in Ladakh has nearly doubled, increasing from 824 to 1,554, while oxygen beds have risen from 461 to 1,078. ICU beds have also improved from 11 to 31. The availability of doctors has surged from 170 to 301, and Ayushman Arogya Mandir Health and Wellness Centres have expanded from just 6 to 321, significantly enhancing medical accessibility in the region,” the reply reads.
Enrollment in Ladakh’s schools has grown from 46,895 to 54,756, accompanied by an increase in teachers from 6,197 to 6,334. The number of hostels has doubled from 15 to 30, and the region has seen a dramatic rise in ICT labs (2 to 148) and smart classrooms (0 to 230), it reads.
To promote science and technology, Atal Tinkering Labs have been introduced in 24 schools, and 40 astronomy labs have been set up. Additionally, 17,500 tablets have been distributed to students from Class 6 and above, improving digital learning opportunities.
Ladakh has seen an expansion in power infrastructure, with the 66 KV transmission line extended from 257 km to 293 km and the number of 66/11 KV substations increasing from 10 to 16, effectively doubling the power capacity from 76.7 MVA to 154.5 MVA.
The number of distribution transformers has more than doubled from 1,182 to 2,781, while sanctioned power load has increased from 78.8 MW to 143 MW, the reply added.
