Leh: A delegation from the Ice Hockey Federation of India, led by its President and former Member of Parliament from Ladakh, Jamyang Tsering Namgyal, met with the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd), at the Lt Governor’s Secretariat to express their gratitude for his support in promoting ice hockey in the region.
The delegation, which included members of the Ice Hockey Federation of India, the Ice Hockey Association of Ladakh, and local ice hockey players, thanked the Lt Governor for his efforts in supporting the Indian ice hockey team’s participation in the Asian Winter Games held in Harbin, China.
During the meeting, the Lt Governor highlighted the importance of securing early recognition and affiliation for the Ice Hockey Federation of India. He directed Vikram Singh Malik, IAS, Secretary of Youth Services and Sports, to take necessary steps to register the Ice Hockey Federation of India with the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India.
The Lt Governor stressed that promoting ice hockey and other sports would greatly benefit the youth of Ladakh and encourage them to actively participate in sports. He also mentioned the declaration of ice hockey as the state game of UT Ladakh as an important achievement for the region.
The delegation appreciated the Lt Governor’s leadership and ongoing support, which they said has played a major role in enhancing the status of ice hockey in Ladakh.
The meeting was attended by Dr Pawan Kotwal, IAS, Chief Secretary of UT Ladakh, and Vikram Singh Malik, IAS, Secretary of Youth Services and Sports.
