Kargil: Sonam Dawa, Proprietor of Zanskar Courtyard Guest House and President of the newly formed Zanskar Hotel/Guest House and Homestay Association, met with Executive Councillor, LAHDC Kargil, Er. Punchok Tashi to discuss the future of tourism in Zanskar.
During the meeting, the delegation introduced the newly established association and outlined its objectives, which aim to promote and enhance the hospitality sector in Zanskar. They highlighted the current challenges and opportunities in tourism, particularly following the opening of new road connectivity from Himachal and Leh via Chilling, along with the macadamization of the Kargil-Padum road.
The association urged EC Tashi to help formulate a comprehensive tourism development plan that balances economic growth with cultural preservation and environmental sustainability. Their key focus areas include promoting sustainable tourism, improving accommodation standards, and supporting local businesses.
EC Tashi congratulated the newly elected association members and assured them of his commitment to strengthening tourism infrastructure in Zanskar. He emphasized the need for collaborative efforts to establish Zanskar as a premier travel destination in UT Ladakh.
The association also plans to organize workshops, training sessions, and promotional events to attract more tourists and enhance visitor experiences. Advisor of the Association, Tenzin Motup Tahang, also attended the meeting and stressed the importance of tapping into Zanskar’s winter tourism potential.
