Secretary Youth Services & Sports Moses Kunzang presented an overview of the department’s organisational structure, sanctioned and vacant non-gazetted posts, recruitment rules, budget allocations and expenditure under the State Development Programme, State Sector schemes and the Changthang Development Package.
Discussions focused on strengthening the Ladakh Sports Policy and Ladakh Sports Council to promote sports systematically across the region. Ongoing infrastructure projects and new facilities, including a shooting range, equestrian riding facilities, squash courts and artificial climbing walls, were reviewed.
The Chief Secretary emphasised introducing structured mountaineering courses to harness Ladakh’s terrain for skill development and youth empowerment. He directed timely resolution of key challenges faced by the sports sector.
Lt Col Alok Pratap Singh, Commanding Officer of 1 Ladakh BN NCC, briefed the meeting on the battalion’s structure, authorised strength, centrally organised camps, cadet achievements and concerns over limited participation from educational institutions. The status of UT funds, construction progress at NTA Phyang and additional financial requirements were also reviewed.
The Chief Secretary directed departments to expedite pending works, improve coordination with institutions and ensure optimal utilisation of funds to strengthen youth development initiatives.
