Leh: A trip to Ladakh turned out to be memorable for a group of tourists, as they witnessed a rare wildlife encounter. In a video that has caught attention online, a man captured the exact moment when he and the rest of the travellers sighted a rare red fox while they were en route to Pangong Tso. The animal, easily recognised by its pointed ears and bushy tail, was seen calmly approaching the tourists’ vehicle, leaving everyone inside surprised.
As seen in the clip, once the car stopped, the red fox stood beside it calmly and walked around. The travellers remained inside the vehicle, in awe of its beauty. One of them asked, “Kya de isko (What should we feed it)?” When someone said they could give biscuits, one person quipped that the government had warned against feeding the animals.
Once the video surfaced online, people shared that the group was lucky to have spotted the rare species, and some also praised the tourist for not feeding the fox. “Good job by not feeding it. People need to understand that feeding a wild animal is not good for the wild characteristics of that animal,” said one user.
Another added, “They’re rare as f–k… Lucky that you could encounter one.”
“Wolf, hyena, bhediya sab bol diya bas jo hai wo nahi bola,” someone else joked.
Reacting to the clip, Indian Forest Service officer Parveen Kaswan identified the animal as a Himalayan red fox.
