Leh, June 3, 2025: Hon’ble Chairman/Chief Executive Councillor (CEC) of LAHDC Leh, Adv. Tashi Gyalson, extended heartfelt congratulations to the people of Ladakh on two landmark developments—the official notification of one-third reservation for women in the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Councils (LAHDCs) and the recognition of Bhoti and Purgi as official languages of the Union Territory.

Calling both decisions historic, the Hon’ble CEC stated that LAHDC had persistently advocated for women’s reservation, and its realisation marks a transformative step towards inclusive governance and grassroots empowerment. He described the move as progressive and crucial in strengthening democracy by ensuring greater participation of women in decision-making processes.

According to the newly notified Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Councils (Amendment) Regulation, 2025, not less than one-third of the total seats in both Hill Councils—Leh and Kargil—will now be reserved for women, with rotational provisions to ensure broader constituency representation.

Simultaneously, the notification declaring Bhoti and Purgi as official languages of Ladakh was hailed by the CEC as a moment of immense cultural pride. He said the recognition goes beyond language—it honours the identity, dignity, and civilisational heritage of Ladakh. The official status of Bhoti and Purgi, he added, is a long-awaited acknowledgment of the region’s distinct linguistic and cultural legacy.

Adv. Tashi Gyalson expressed deep gratitude to Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and Hon’ble Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah for their visionary leadership and continued support towards fulfilling the aspirations of the people of Ladakh. He assured the full support of LAHDC Leh in implementing these developments in both letter and spirit, expressing hope that they would encourage broader public participation and strengthen Ladakh’s unique identity.

A delegation of women leaders from various religious and community-based organizations called on the Hon’ble CEC to express their joy and gratitude for the implementation of one-third reservation for women in political positions. The delegation included presidents of the women’s wings of Ladakh Buddhist Association, Anjuman Imamia, Anjuman-e-Moin-ul-Islam, and the Christian Association, along with representatives from the LBA. Nominated Councillor Dr. Yangchen Dolma was also present during the meeting. The delegation warmly appreciated this major step towards women’s political empowerment and inclusive governance in the region.
