KARGIL: In a bid to bolster emergency preparedness and ensure swift response in times of crisis, the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) Kargil, in collaboration with District Police Kargil, will conduct a Civil Defence Mock Drill on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, starting from 4:00 PM onwards across various locations in Kargil town.
As part of the exercise, warning sirens will be sounded at multiple points in the town to simulate a real-life emergency situation. The objective of the drill is to test the efficiency of the emergency response system, evaluate readiness levels of various departments, and strengthen coordination among all stakeholders involved in disaster management.
Authorities have advised the general public to remain calm and not to panic upon hearing the sirens, as the activity is purely a precautionary mock exercise and not an actual emergency.
“This drill is an important part of our strategy to improve disaster response and ensure public safety during emergencies,” the DDMA and District Police stated in a joint advisory. They further emphasized that cooperation from the public is crucial for the success of such safety initiatives.
The advisory concluded with an appeal for active public support and vigilance, underlining the shared responsibility in building a disaster-resilient community.
