Leh: In a significant step towards improving healthcare services for senior citizens, Ghulam Mehdi, Hon’ble Executive Councillor, LAHDC Leh, inaugurated the Elder Helpdesk at SNM Hospital Leh. This initiative, managed by HelpAge India in collaboration with the hospital, aims to provide dedicated support to elderly patients, ensuring they receive the healthcare services they need with dignity and care.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Dr. Rajesh Kumar, State Head of HelpAge India, Dr. Tashi Thinles,Director of Health, Dr. Dolma Chuskit, CMO Leh, and Dr. Jigmet Wangchuk, Deputy Medical Superintendent.
The Elder Helpdesk is designed to assist senior citizens in navigating the healthcare system, making their hospital visits more efficient and comfortable. The initiative addresses the unique needs of elderly patients, offering them timely and compassionate assistance. The helpdesk team consists of four dedicated staff members, including a Team Leader, a Government Scheme Coordinator, and an Elderly Assistant (Vridh Mitra), all committed to ensuring the elderly get the support they need during their visit.
This service will provide various forms of assistance to elderly patients, such as mobility support, including wheelchair services, to help them move around the hospital. The team will also guide senior citizens through different OPD departments, particularly those who come without an attendant. Additionally, the helpdesk will facilitate the collection of diagnostic reports and medicines for elderly patients, making their experience more convenient. For those in need of further care or shelter, the helpdesk will establish connections with old age homes and other resources. Furthermore, the helpdesk will assist in identifying and linking elderly patients with relevant government schemes, ensuring they have access to all available benefits.
The inauguration of the Elder Helpdesk is a significant step towards improving the healthcare experience for the elderly in Leh.
