Kargil: Chief Secretary of the Union Territory of Ladakh, Ashish Kundra (IAS), on Saturday inspected several ongoing developmental projects in Kargil town on the first day of his district visit.
He was accompanied by Deputy Commissioner Kargil Rakesh Kumar, along with senior district officials and representatives from various departments.
During his visit to the Government Polytechnic College at Kurbathang, the Chief Secretary reviewed progress on a 200-seater Computer-Based Training Centre being developed at a sanctioned cost of ₹24.66 crore. Officials from the Central Public Works Department (CPWD) informed that around 85% of the physical work has been completed and the facility is expected to be handed over by November.
He also inspected construction of classrooms, laboratories, a library, computer centre, common room, and faculty rooms being built at a cost of ₹1,416.08 lakh. The project is likely to be completed by August next year. In addition, he reviewed staff residential quarters constructed at a cost of ₹670.47 lakh. Kundra directed officials to expedite the pace of work and ensure timely completion while maintaining quality standards.
The Chief Secretary visited the Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) under construction at Sher Bagh. Officials from the Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department informed that the plant is being developed using NDBR technology at a cost of ₹58 crore. With a capacity of 2 million litres per day (MLD), the project is expected to serve wards 10 to 13 of the Kargil Municipal area, covering around 1,450 households.
He also inspected a 300-metre motorable bridge connecting Baroo with Andoo Kurbathang via Sher Bagh. The bridge, being constructed at a cost of ₹7,610 lakh, is expected to be completed by October next year. The Chief Secretary expressed satisfaction with the progress and reiterated the need for timely execution.
Kundra also visited a hostel being constructed for Children With Special Needs (CWSN) near the Council Secretariat at Kurbathang. The project is being developed at a cost of ₹489.16 lakh.
Later, the Chief Secretary inaugurated a multi-purpose hall at Police Line Kargil. The event was attended by Director General of Police, Ladakh, Anand Jain; Deputy Commissioner Kargil Rakesh Kumar; Senior Superintendent of Police Kargil Nitin Yadav; and other officials from the Ladakh Police and district administration.
